Doing what they love earned two Mid Canterbury secondary school students a tidy windfall from the Mid Canterbury Choir.
The choir awards two, $100 scholarships annually to students who sing and support others in their school choirs.
This year’s winners were Penny Nell from Mount Hutt College and Zoe Kenny from Ashburton College.
Penny has been involved in both theatre and choirs for many years, starting singing lessons as a five-year-old.
She sings in Latin, Italian and French and has developed a passion for classical repertoire.
She is completing NCEA Level 2 in music, with voice and has achieved both solo and group performance standards at excellence level.
Zoe has been a member of Ashburton College’s Phoenix Rising and Phoenix Chorus for the past four years.
She became a senior choral member in 2018 and has been a leader for younger singers.
She is a member of the senior music class and has studied voice this year.
